Description of Facilities

Indoors:
The large main room, measuring approximately 25 feet by 45 feet, is light and airy, with one entire wall filled with windows overlooking the ocean; the opposite wall overlooks the patio and lawn. The room contains six columns, enhancing the appearance.. A mural by local artist Rik Erickson adorns one wall inside the main room, as well as the wall above the span of west-facing windows extending the length of the room. It is estimated that this room will comfortably accommodate up to 100 people, seated at tables.

There is a separate entertainment room, perfect for music and dancing. This room has hardwood floors, eliminating the need for bringing in a dance floor. The room is furnished with several sofas, chairs and tables. These, along with the potted plants, create a beautiful atmosphere for dancing or simply listening to the music. The walls in this room are hand-painted by Rik Erickson as well. It is estimated that about 50 or 60 people can fit into this room while dancing.

We feature high-speed business WIFI, good for large presentations and video streaming.

There are two restrooms inside the building, including one which is handicapped-accessible. The kitchen is small, but is equipped with a sink, counter-tops, cabinets, and full-sized refrigerator.

Outdoors:
The outdoor patio, approximately 70 feet by 14 feet, is a perfect location for serving food or drinks.
The lawn adjacent to the patio is included with the building rental ..A natural boundary is formed on the perimeter of the lawn by bushes, plants and walkways.
The north area of the lawn is perfect for a wedding ceremony. Your guests will be able to view the ocean and the hills and homes across the ocean.

Visiting Our Facility

The best times to visit the facility are on Wednesdays, Fridays and Mondays between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The Bridge Club plays bridge on all three days. The doors are opened about 10:30 a.m., the games begin at 11:30 a.m. Bridge club members are present at those times and are happy to answer any questions pertaining to the venue. Anyone who is in the building can show you around the facility.

The Club discourages people entering the building while the games are in progress. However, If you get there after the game has already begun, and you feel that this is the only time you can view the site, then please do not make any noise or otherwise disturb the game or the players while you are looking around the building. The games usually end around 2:30 p.m.

The club can accommodate 90-100 guests for a sit- down dinner and dancing inside and can accommodate 150- 175 If guests eat at tables on the outside lawn.

Payments

The rental fee and “damage deposit” should be made in two payments: 50% (one-half) of the rental fee only is paid at the time a contract is signed and the balance of the rental fee and the damage deposit should be paid at least 90 days prior to the event date. Lol

Payment can be made by personal check, cashiers check or money order only. We do not have the capability of receiving payments by credit card. Any check returned for insufficient funds will be subject to a $35 handling charge.

Vendors

You may select any vendor you wish, but are responsible for any damages to the club that may be caused by any vendor you use. For that reason you may wish to require that the vendors you choose carry liability insurance to help protect you.

A list of vendors that would like your business appears on this website in the “Vendors” tab. though the Bridge Club makes no recommendation concerning any of the vendors whose names appear there.

Cleanup

It is the tenant’s responsibility to remove all items, including garbage and trash, created by the event from the building and adjacent grounds at the conclusion of the event..DO NOT use the dumpsters in the park to dump trash. The club will provide a cleaning crew to clean the restrooms, kitchen, and sweep and vacuum the large room and entertainment room.

Vendors may use the 20 minute commercial zone on Coast Blvd, the street adjacent to the Club, to actively load or unload supplies. Vehicles that are used for loading and unloading should have orange cones placed next to them.
The city does NOT allow vehicles to drive on the driveway adjacent to the club. Please notify vendors that they are NOT authorized to use the driveway for loading and unloading.

Furniture

You are free to use whatever furniture is present at the club on the date of the event.. If you wish to have additional furniture, you are free to bring in any furnishings you desire, including tables and chairs, canopies, special lighting, space heaters, and so on.

Insurance

The city of San Diego requires that the tenant, (NOT vendors) obtain what’s known as “Special Event” Insurance for the date of the event. The liability limit should be one million dollars per occurrence and two million dollars aggregate. Unless you hire a licensed bartender for your event then the policy must contain a “liquor liability” provision.

The policy should name the tenant as the principal insured and should name TWO additional insureds:

(1) The City of San Diego: c/o City Of San Diego Tenant Users 1200 Third Avenue, Suite #1000, San Diego CA 92101
(2) La Jolla Cove Bridge Club, 1160 Coast Blvd. La Jolla CA 92037

In late 2016 the website EventHelper.com (not affiliated with La Jolla Cove Bridge Club) offered this insurance for around $100

Music

You may select your band or disc jockey, who may set up in either the main room or the entertainment room.

Amplified music and microphones are not allowed on the lawn or patio except during your wedding ceremony itself. Amplified music may not be played on the lawn or patio, even if intended merely as background music. If you plan to dine on the lawn or patio, you may have a small band or single musician playing acoustic (non-amplified) music.

Amplified music is allowed inside the building. However, while the music is playing, all doors facing the east must remain shut unless the speakers are facing the ocean, in which case the doors may remain open.

City ordinances require noise levels, including microphones, to be no greater than 60 db from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., or 55 db from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Please insure that your band or DJ is aware of, and abides by this ordinance

Opening and Closing the Building on the Day of Your Event

For Saturday and Sunday events you may arrange with the Rental Manager a time at which to have the building opened for you on the day of your event.

For Monday events you may enter the building when the director of the bridge game that day gives you permission to enter, usually around 3:30 pm, but in no event later than 4:00 pm. You may bring items to the outside of the club any time in the afternoon of a Sunday event.

When all of your and your vendors’ belongings are removed from the building, no later than 10:45 pm, please close all windows, turn off the air conditioner or heating system, turn off the lights and close all doors. The doors will self-lock.

Overnight Storage of Personal or Rental Items

Due to weekly classes and seminars, we are unable to accommodate any requests to store personal or rental items overnight, either the night before your event or on the night of your event.

Parking

Besides the free- of- charge two and three hour street parking in the area which is enforced Saturdays until 6 pm but not enforced Sundays, there are numerous parking garages within easy walking distance of the bridge club..The La Jolla Financial Building at 1200 Prospect Street, 858 454-8559 is one such garage .

Signs Announcing Your Event

Signs announcing your private function may be placed on the edge of any of the walkways leading into our site, on the day of your event. Walkways may not be completely blocked with signs, ribbons or rope.

Tents and Canopies

Tents are not allowed on the premises; a maximum of one canopy, no larger than 20 feet by 20 feet, may be used in lieu of a tent. If you rent a canopy, you will be responsible for any damage that may occur in putting the canopy up or taking it down.

A canopy consists of a roof cover and may have one side; if there are two or more sides, it is a tent.
